Lean Product Development

Lean Product Development - New Product Development Workshop Overview

Lean Product Development is not as straight forward as production and processing within a company. It has a complexity that is not normally seen in a production environment. The flow of information and communication does not necessarily flow in one direction. It very often has to return to an upstream department or process to be analyzed or tested or additional design and engineering. The resulting drawings have loops and complex flows, which need to be identified and data gathered in order to complete the entire Product Development Value Streams. The other factor that creates some uniqueness, from the Enterprise Value Stream Mapping, is you can’t always ‘see’ the information or communication flows. This inability to ‘see’ is not an impediment to completing the analysis; it just has to be handled differently.

Questions frequently asked:

  • How does Lean apply to Product Development?

  • Is there Waste in Product Development?

  • How can we make Knowledge and Information Flow?

  • What pulls projects forward successfully?

  • Can we use Lean to reduce our Product Development Lead Times and overall costs while building higher Quality into more innovative products and services?

Lean Product Development guides you to the answers to these questions. The Lean Product Development workshop teaches the principles of Lean Product Development using case studies and hands-on application to your situation. During the course, we will explore the following important components of Lean Product Development:
  • Creating Value and eliminating waste

  • Alignment by Value Stream

  • Developers are experts with responsibility for outcomes

  • Managers are mentors and teachers

  • Information and knowledge flows in small batches

  • Major integrating events pull development efforts forward

  • Deliberately delayed decisions on final specifications

Following the workshop, your team will be able to look at Product Development in a new way. The potential results include:
  • Reduced Lead Times

  • Shorter Development Cycles

  • Less Cost

  • Better Quality

  • Less rework
