Workshop Overview
This workshop covers Value Stream Mapping in an Office Environment. We offer it as:
- a two-day course for those who have taken our popular Introduction To KAIZEN Lean Workshop or
- a three-day course, which includes the Introduction To KAIZEN Lean Workshop.
Most organizations have some difficulty making the leap from shop floor mapping to the office environment. This module contains case studies that will help to clarify and demystify how to use these techniques in the office. It also includes hands-on practical mapping in your office area under the guidance of an expert facilitator so that your team can immediately practice their new skills.

Teaching Method
The course offers a hands-on approach to Value Stream Mapping in an office environment. Using a combination of case studies and actual processes from your office the instructor will lead you through the development of a current state map and then on to a future state map with an implementation plan of how to get there.
Program Agenda
3 Days - Office Value Stream Mapping Workshop -plus- 2 Days - Future Implementation Plan Workshop
The workshop consists of two components. It includes:
- a 3-day session introducing and applying Office Value Stream Mapping as a critical tool supporting Lean. At the completion of this workshop, the participants will have created a Current State Map and developed their own Future State Value Stream Map.
- An additional 2 days is offered in conjunction with this Workshop to assist the participants in the completion of a six month Implementation Plan.
Value Stream Mapping Office - Preparation Work
- On the day before class starts, the facilitator and key sponsor members from the local team make preparations to ensure a rewarding experience for the students.
- Tour the work area to become familiar with the activities being performed. Select product families for the practical mapping exercises.
- Calculate takt times from data collected by the host company prior to the session.
- Prepare data sheets for the class for their practical exercises.
- Review the class participant list and divide the students into mapping teams.
- Prepare the classroom for the session the next day.
- Brief senior managers about the training, and implement the appropriate advance communications in the host facility.
