Brian Amouzegar PhD, PMP, CQE, CPEM

Dr. Amouzegar is a scholar-practitioner with over 20 years of hybrid experience in both academic and business environments, in Canada, and several more years internationally. Some keywords to describe his domain of expertise include operational efficiency, strategic planning, project management, TQM and industrial engineering.

In his consulting practice, Brian has worked extensively with a balanced portfolio of clients ranging from manufacturing to services, including a national-scale crown corporation. The content of his consulting engagements typically concentrates on treatment of current value streams and business processes through incremental improvement or re-engineering. The scope of work invariably includes tailored training and hands-on coaching elements to ensure sustainability of solution gains.

Some result highlights.

  • Introduction of lean framework through training, coaching and execution of 5S pilot events.

  • Training project management methodology and launching several project initiatives for an educational institution.

  • Process-mapping and standardization of privacy-related instruments for PIPEDA compliance.

  • Measuring inventory accuracy and facilitating problem-solving workshops to eliminate causes of inaccuracy.

  • Analysis of end-to-end value stream (Sales-Design-Engineering-Production-Installation-Billing) for reduction of lead time and defect rates. Introduced and coached PDCA and Kaizen and 5S techniques into the organization.

  • Supervised several post-secondary students in multiple operational areas, including streamlining the capital goods procurement process for British Columbia Institute of Technology.

  • Evaluated suitability of the organizational (functional) structure of a client, proposed an alternative (projectized) structure, and led the transition. This included putting in place new procedures to facilitate monitoring and control of critical activities.

Select Organizations Brian has worked with over the past few years.

Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) – Advised diverse clients in lean and operational efficiency initiatives and improved financial standings.

SelfDesign Learning Foundation – Planned and launched an end-to-end PIPEDA compliance project, including identification of critical processes, RAM/RACI charts, WBS as well as time and efforts estimates.

Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) – Designed and delivered, across BC, special-purpose training workshops to enable member personnel to manage small projects, effectively.

Univar Canada – Implemented business process re-engineering (BPR) for a complex stock-taking process for a product line responsible for about a third of the revenue stream of the Canadian operations.

Specialty Technical Publishers (STP) – Value stream mapped the principal end-to-end process from receipt of new content to publishing which resulted-in substantial reduction of lead time to ensure freshness of content at the time it becomes marketable. A critical business problem was solved as a result of such intervention.

Post Secondary Institutes – Taught and supervised student practicum projects at various post-secondary institutes, primarily BC Institute of Technology, Simon Fraser University, University Canada West, Yorkville University, and the University of British Columbia. Supervised projects include business process reengineering of BCIT’s procurement process for capital goods.
